California Pizza Kitchen

Went to California Pizza Kitchen last night in Prudential. I actually like that place a lot. I wanted to get the spinach artichoke dip but nobody else wanted it, so we got the shrimp rolls instead, and 2 pizzas.

california club pizza with grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes It was alright, but I prefer the spinach artichoke dip to the shrimp rolls still. The steak pizza was pretty good, but I liked the roasted garlic chicken one I had last time better. The club pizza was kinda weird - you can't see the chicken and bacon which is under all the lettuce, and we got it with no avocado despite my protest. And surprise... it tasted like a sandwich. It was all good, but I'm gonna go back to the more normal pizzas next time I think.

Audobon

Went to that place Audobon in South Campus. I meant to try it all last year but never actually went. It turns out it's pretty good, and it's a good value for money too.

pressed capicolla sandwich with provolone, basil, and tomatoes Sandwich was only 7 bucks and it came with a good salad. Both were filling. The steak was actually medium rare like I ordered it. Yummy yummy.

Chart House

Tried to go to Finale for dessert. When we got there, they told us it'd be a 2 hour wait. We searched for alternatives. We ended up deciding to go to the Chart House, because they had a good warm chocolate cake and it'd be faster to actually go there than wait. We had an appetizer while we waited for the cake, which takes 30 minutes of prep there.

chocolate molten lava cake The shrimp was surprisingly tasty. We wanted calamari, but we went so late that they were out of it. Shrimp was good though... we wanted something crunchy. The cake was good just like last time. I think the warm chocolate cake has become a staple dessert everywhere. Chart House does it well... Keith and Val say that Finale does it better. Val insists she would have waited 2 hours.

Bertucci's

Saw the Matrix Revolutions... fighting was cool, plot was ehh... Went to Bertucci's again afterwards. This month they have a special for their chicken scallopine stuff... $10.99 with soup and pasta on the side.

pizza with scallops and bacon All decent for the price. Keith's pizza looked really good but I didn't try any. I had the picatta, and couldn't finish it. Gotta go... hitting Finale for dessert for the first time... I've heard good and bad.

Nud Pob soup

Today, I tried to go home between IR and econ. Sadly, the T happened to die for the half hour window that I was waiting, and by the time one finally came (it was full anyway) I didn't have time to go back home anymore. It was also FREEZING today, so I walked over to Nud Pob to try and kill the rest of my free time.

tom yum noodle soup with chicken I was hoping it'd be more spicy... I remember it being more spicy when I had it last year. Still pretty good though. Having ground chicken in a noodle soup can be kinda hard to eat, but it tastes good. Warmed me up a bit a least.

Maluken

Keith and Val apparently saw my site and wanted to try Maluken. So Becky and I went with them. I think this is gonna be Maluken's third appearance on the site...

california roll, spicy tuna maki Solid again. When you're eating budget sushi, there's no toro to be had, but the weird rolls are usually pretty good. Lots of tempura stuff. The spicy makis also have more than just fish in them... dunno what it is but it's not bad.

Sichuan Garden

Didn't eat much interesting stuff this weekend. Lauren came to visit; she wants to go to BU. Halloween was alright. Also saw Sean's play over the weekend, and he was hilarious again. The other day for lunch I went to Sichuan Garden in Brookline with Becky, Lauren, Mike, Snezhana, Dave, and Ahrie. One of Mike or Snezhana's friends said they had pretty spicy stuff. It was funny fitting all of us in Dave's car...

spicy fried chicken The food was spicy I guess, but not that spicy. Still tasted pretty good though. A beef dish not pictured was well done, and I also liked the beans. They were nice and crisp. Other than that I ate pretty boring stuff this weekend... Subs, macaroni and cheese, sandwiches, and so on. Promise to bring more this week!

Pho Pasteur

Went to Pho Pasteur in Chinatown for dinner... thought it would be good to compare to Sugar Bowl which I went to earlier this week.

grilled pork and imperial roll bun The pork was better, but the imperial roll wasn't really crispy enough. I gotta try the imperial roll at Sugar Bowl some time. Still, I think it's easier to just go to 88 since it's right next door... the difference wasn't very big (I could, of course, go to the Pho Pasteur which is like 2 blocks away).

Finally got my computer back up and running... I guess I'll put up a few pictures of the past few days. I'll keep the comments brief since this is gonna be pretty long.

ebi, hamachi, sake, maguro, and a tekka maki Had a sushi CRAVING today, so went to Maluken in Kenmore again. This place is pretty solid for the money. The crazy maki has tempura and some other crap in it... I'm a sucker for tempura rolls.

spicy beef noodle soup This is from Sugar Bowl in 88 the other night. Mike says the spicy beef noodle soup was good, and is the best deal in Super 88. It was the first time I tried the bun there, which was pretty good too at $6.25. I liked the pork a lot. Always goes back to the Vietnamese place being inexplicably cheaper than the Japanese place (Ajisen Ramen) by a few dollars, even though the food is better and the portions are larger.

fish sandwich from Uno Went to Uno twice within what, one or two weeks? Someone felt like going and there weren't any other options. As you can see, the piece of fish on this sandwich is pretty damn big. I had to kinda fold it over to fit it. Fish wasn't bad, but coulda been better... A little dry, and not enough meat. The fries were seasoned like curly fries, but not curly. I approve! That's about it for now. I'll be updating regularly again now. :D

Kat and Colleen came over today to cook for us. I don't know how that happened, but I got to eat so it's fine by me. Colleen made LASAGNA and Kat "made" salad (with corn).

THIS IS FOR YOU MOM - Kat's salad It was really good! I was definitely impressed. I haven't had lasagna in a looong time. And I guess corn in salad is okay. We even have some leftovers, but not as much as I thought we would at first... oh well. Thanks Kat and Colleen!

University Grill

Sorry about not posting yesterday, but to be honest I didn't really eat anything. Had half a sandwich for lunch and delivery for dinner. Today, Dave, Mike, and I stopped by University Grill in the afternoon. I think I've made a convert out of Mike.

mushroom burger with swiss The burger is actually pretty decent there. Meat ain't much, but I like the bun, and the fries are alright. It's kind of in between a fast food and a real burger. God I miss Mo's.

Pizzeria Uno

The Niners beat Tampa, so I am very happy. Sadly they did not show the game... During the afternoon, I had a couple hot dogs and some chips while watching football. For dinner, I went to Pizzeria Uno in Kenmore.

shrimp and sirlion steak from uno It was no Ruth's Chris, but for 12 bucks it was pretty good. Ordered medium rare, and as expected it came medium-ish, but it was still okay. I finally actually read a lot of the manual for my camera, and I learned a bunch of stuff about white balance and different shooting modes. From now on, the orange effect shouldn't happen anymore! I'm such a budding photographer.

Limoncello

Had a nice dinner last night in the North End at Limoncello, which I've been to a couple times before. Had a scallop salad appetizer which was really good, but I forgot to whip out the camera. Here are some pictures of the pasta - they were very dark but I tried to brighten em a bit in Photoshop.

rosette pasta with prosciutto, montasio cheese, mushrooms, and truffle oil Both of the pastas were good. The frutti di mare had a red sauce, and I always prefer white, but the seafood tasted pretty good. The rosette was very interesting. I ordered it based off recs from Chowhound. They used pasta sheets, wrapped it around the stuff into a rosette shape. Could definitely smell and taste the truffle. Good stuff.

THE RED SOX LOST. Boston enters depression. I made a scramble earlier today, but didn't have time to post it because I was watching the game.

3 egg scramble with bacon, mushrooms, onions, scallions, and hash browns I kinda threw everything in there in between classes. Should have made the bacon a bit crispier. The crappy part is I finished cooking, ate half of it about, then realized I had to be at Morse for econ in like 20 minutes... so I wolfed down some more and ran out the door.

Had a low-funds dinner tonight at Victoria's with Keith. They have cheap rice plates... this time I got pork chop with spicy salt.

Bertucci's

Tried Bertucci's again for lunch, this time made it in time for the lunch special. I got a trenette puttanesca.

trenette puttanesca from Bertucci's It was not bad. Not too tomatoey which I was a little worried about, and the pasta was a surprisingly well-cooked al dente. The picture kinda sucks; their light is very orange-ish. It was a great deal - the pasta, unlimited rolls and salad (both were pretty good) for under 8 bucks. Gonna have pizza next time though. I remember it being pretty good at the one in Cambridge.

Spike's Junkyard Dogs

I finally went to try that Spike's Junkyard Dogs place. They boast all-beef hot dogs on freshly baked buns.

ball park dog with cheese fries I got a Ball Park dog, which means mustard, onions, and cheddar (didn't know cheddar was white ever?) and some cheese fries on the side. It was so so... the hot dog tasted pretty good I guess, but the bun was too big. It would probably be better on a sandwich. The fries were so so at best. They were like curly fries that weren't seasoned, and that's just against the rules. Like messing with Texas.
