Sakae

Had Japanese again for dinner last night, this time at Sakae in downtown.

sashimi: chu-toro, sea bass, and sockeye salmon sashimi: chu-toro, sea bass, and sockeye salmon

sushi: amaebi, scallop, uni, and anago sushi: amaebi, scallop, uni, and anago The toro was really good. Sea bass was good too - I don't eat it much but I like the chewy texture. Sockeye salmon is a local Pacific wild salmon... really bright orange, nice flavor. Can never get enough Japanese.

Show Case

Had lunch at Show Case on Christmas Day. Show Case is the restaurant inside Delta Pinnacle. They have an interesting system where you have your appetizers buffet style (with a bunch of stuff... sushi, seafood, salads, antipasto, etc.) and an entree that you order. I had the prawn and fennel risotto.

prawn and fennel risotto prawn and fennel risotto Not bad. The appetizer buffet has a lot of food to choose from. My aunt and my cousin Karen both unwisely went with a "BBQ Pork Congee" which turned out pretty bad. Rule #1: don't order Chinese food at western restaurants. My risotto was pretty good though.

Ajisai

Food is so cheap in Vancouver... especially sushi. SO cheap. Went to this place called Ajisai for dinner last night with Geoff, his mom, and Tiff. Sooo cheap...

sashimi: shiromaguro, sake, toro, ika, tako, hokkigai sashimi: shiromaguro, sake, toro, ika, tako, hokkigai Everything was pretty good in general. Vancouver has good sushi. The uni roll was good, though not the same as what I had in Hokkaido. This place did something interesting with the Dynamite roll - they put corn flakes in it which made it crunchy. It was interesting. Also had a piece of kanpachi not pictured... always enjoy kanpachi.
