Beijing Cafe

After a depressing Niner defeat last night, all I could do for lunch was get Beijing Cafe.

Beijing Cafe fried rice house special fried rice from Beijing Cafe I like this fried rice the best out of all the places nearby (Quan's, Victoria's, etc.) and we've been eating it since last year. The rice cooker finally got here today (surprised UPS was working today), and Mike says he's making better fried rice. I guess we'll see...

Mike's cooking

Long weekend! Had lox and bagels for our Sunday brunch today.

lox and bagels lox and bagels We used some salmon that we bought at Shaw's yesterday. We also went through our pack of pagels surprisingly fast... but we still got the English muffins as backup. Tonight the Niners are on ESPN HD... sweet.

Mike's Chow Mein

We went to Shaw's today and stocked up on some random food. Mike made some chow mein.

beef chow mein with broccolini beef chow mein with broccolini We were in the vegetable section thinking of what to get for the noodles, and I saw broccolini. Figured it was pretty good and simple enough... it actually went really well. Noodles were a lot better than takeout stuff. Mike bought better noodles from Super 88, and also made it spicy, so it was pretty tasty.

Maluken

Had Japanese tonight for dinner at Maluken, the place right off of Kenmore Square. I went there a couple of times last year and it was pretty good. This time we had some sashimi, maki, and a torikatsu (tonkatsu but chicken). Apologize for the dark pictures - it wasn't very bright where we sat.

salmon maki torikatsu All of the stuff was good. I actually like this place better than a few of the more expensive places I've tried... It's far better than Ginza for the money. I think they do the fried items pretty well... the katsu isn't too greasy, and I've had tempura that was pretty good in the past. It's also strangely been almost empty each time I've gone, so it's really quiet. It hasn't closed yet so maybe I'm just not there when it's busy. They had the Red Sox game on while we ate... speaking of which, I have to go watch that now.

Super 88 Kantin

Had a quick lunch at Super 88 today. I had a weird craving for congee.

Mike Cooks Chinese

Mike made Chinese food for dinner (sort of). He made some stir-fried beef with onions, and a soup using some beef, kim chee, and some other crap. So it's sorta Korean-ish too.

stir-fried beef stir-fried beef with onions

kim chee soup thing kim chee soup It turned out pretty good, but the fun cee wasn't actually fun cee, so that part sucked. Soup tasted good though. We had some rice too, but we're still waiting for the new rice cooker, so we had to cook the rice white person style in a pot.

University Grill

Got lunch after class at University Grill right across from CAS today. It's a turkey, avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato triple decker.

turkey and avocado triple decker It was good, but I think I like the tuna melts better. The sandwich could have used a little mayo or something... I think Cookin' Cafe does the turkey club better, but tuna is the way to go at U-Grill. It seems every place in Boston uses the same kind of frozen fries (they're not too bad though).

Super 88 Korean

I went to the new Bertucci's for lunch today, but I forgot to bring my camera. Still gotta get into the habit of taking it with me when I leave the house... sadly, couldn't get a picture of my pasta. Went to Super 88 for dinner, though... Here's "Beef TukBokGi" from the Korean place.

beef tukbokgi from super 88 beef tukbokgi from the korean place at 88 I didn't really know what it was... I was intrigued by the English description of "stir fried rice cakes with beef over rice" but couldn't figure out what it meant. Turned out it was just neen goh (in Cantonese), which I don't even like that much. The beef was decent I guess, but I probably won't order this again.

Arthur's Cooking

This is what I had for brunch yesterday... My first actual attempt at cooking. Eggs with mushrooms and cheese, hash browns, and ham. It actually turned out pretty good! Hard to screw up though.
